A total of 871 students graduated over the weekend during the 11th Convocation Ceremony of Benson Idahosa University, with 49 students out of the 871 bagging first class honour degrees, 270 students finished with the second class upper division, 414 students were in the second class lower division, while 50 students bagged third class.

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution while delivering his address at the ceremony, congratulated the graduating students on their mile stone achievement. The Benson Idahosa University’s ‘Change Nigeria Award’ was conferred on the former Nigerian President for his contribution to national transformation in the area of Governance, Education and Agriculture during the 11th Convocation Ceremony of Benson Idahosa University.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, who also doubled as the Convocation Lecturer, urged the Management of Benson Idahosa University not to relent in mustering efforts towards making the University one of the leading Universities in Nigeria, and , indeed, in Africa. Activities marking the 11th convocation ceremony of Benson Idahosa University began with a special ‘Convocation Service’ on Thursday, July 16th, 2015.

The service which was well attended, had RT. REV. Emmanuel Ihueze from CGMi Borikiri Headquarter as guest preacher. In his message entitled, “The Exceeding God”, the minister of God while congratulating the graduating students, enjoined them to see the exceeding greatness of God in their lives. Convocation-Press-Conference

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie made this known on Monday July 14, 2015 at a press briefing held in respect of the Institution’s 11th Convocation Ceremony which comes up from the 16th-18th of July, 2015.

According to the Vice Chancellor, a total of 49 students bagged first class honours , 207 are in the second class upper division, 414 falls under second class lower division, 15 came out with 3rd class, while 86 students out of the total number are from the post graduate programme. Read More

Campus-life-training

As part of efforts to train and re-train its workforce, the Director of Campus Life Division of the Institution, Rev. Laurie Idahosa organized a one-day training programme for staff of the unit. GAMES
Benson Idahosa University is again making history as three of its students; Augustina Sunday, a 300L English Studies student, Odion Atafo, a 200L Sociology student and Victor Mankuju, a 400L Economics student are amongst the Nigerian delegates representing Nigeria in South Korea this summer at the 28th edition of the International University Games in South Korea.

The trio will be participating in Badminton, playing alongside other sporting nationals across the globe.

The Vice Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie while commending the efforts of the Nigerian Police in their fight against crime across the country, enjoined the Inspector General of Police to restore ‘Campus Police’ by revisiting the Brig. General Abisoye panel of enquiry of 1986 –Ahmadu Bello University-(ABU) student crisis. He made this call in an interactive media chat with Henry Akinniyi of T.V Africa in his office at the university campus in Benin City with focus on campus security as it relates to the fight against cultism.

Answering questions bordering on security and the fight against cultism and other related crimes in the country, Prof. Izevbigie commended the Nigerian Police in their fight against crime, noting that there is however room for improvement. He congratulated the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase on his new appointment, adding that the IG’s war on cultism particularly in his home, Edo State, reflects the true saying, “charity begins at home”. He therefore prayed God to grant the IG wisdom in ridding the country off crime. Read More
