FACULTY OF ARTS AND EDUCATION

May 1, 2016

Faculty of Arts and Education (FAE) in its programme entitled, “Life after University Education,” had an erudite scholar, Prof. Mon. Nwadiani, as its speaker. During his presentation, the academic decried the current state of education in the Country as compared to the good standards it enjoyed in the past. According to him, “education in Nigeria is at a cross road”.

Identifying gross examination malpractices, sexual harassments, indiscipline, poor value system, etc, as the cankerworm eating deep into the educational system in the country, the scholar said that, Nigerian universities have become sleeping giants, where intellectual and economics bankruptcy thrive. . He noted that the resultant effect of these is the massive output of half-baked graduates with polluted degrees and improper orientation. Speaking further he said, universities have become more domesticated, rather than universal, noting that what makes a university great is its ‘product’ and not the ‘environment’. He therefore called on the government to invest in educational, especially at the tertiary level.

Highlighting decisiveness, decision, destination and destiny as four ‘Ds’ which the students must bear in mind, Prof. Nwadiani, said that life after university education is not a bed of roses. According to him, it requires hard work, dedication and diligence.  He therefore urged the students to be grateful to God at all times and to their parents for sending them to Benson Idahosa University, adding that; the Christian values, academic standard and vision establishing the institution, set it apart from all others.

Present was the Dean of Post Graduate School, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie, amongst others.

Earlier, the Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Innocent Umejesi expressed his appreciation to all, while calling on the students to be dedicated and work towards excellence in their academic pursuit.
