In line with its mission of raising leaders who are complete in spirit, mind and body; with a core purpose to change Nigeria, the university management on Tuesday September 8, 2015 inaugurated the Student Interactive Forum. The inauguration of the student interactive forum which is the first of its kind in the history of Benson Idahosa University began with the introduction of the newly constituted student leaders.
Speaking at the forum, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie congratulating the student leaders, charged them to take their responsibilities seriously. He noted that having been selected as student leaders among the lot, it affords them the opportunity to shine, as well as help build their resume even after graduating from the university. The Vice Chancellor therefore prayed God to grant the newly constituted student leaders the wisdom to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
Also speaking, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sam Guobadia said as part of management’s resolve to ensure that students have the ‘Excellent Student Experience’ in the new academic session, the Student Interactive Forum will create an opportunity for management to continue to interface with the students. This he said will enable management listen to the complaints of the students, make adjustment where the need arises as well as proffer solutions where necessary. He therefore urged the leaders to effectively communicate back to the main student body their interactions with management at all times, adding that it will go a long way to checkmate issues of rumor among students on campus.
On their part, the students took turns to express their unreserved appreciation to the University Management, while commending the management for the impressive outlook of the campus; improved hostel facilities as well as the well-equipped classrooms. They however employed management to do more, in terms of additional hostel facilities, stiffer penalties for defaulters of school rules and regulations, etc.
Responding to some of their concerns and questions, the Director, Campus Life Division, Rev. Laurie Idahosa said in line with the theme for the new academic session, “Excellent Student Experience” (#ESE), the University Management has made some policy changes for the benefit of all. Some of which include; adjustment to chapel service schedules, improved accommodation for students, etc. The Campus Life Boss updated the leaders on the ongoing construction work of additional state-of-the-art hostel facility which will accommodate Engineering students at the University’s Okha Campus, adding that the hostels will be a beauty to behold when completed.
The event also witnessed the official introduction of the newly appointed Ag. Dean of students, Dr. M.D Oisamoje to the newly constituted student leaders. The Student Interactive Forum is aimed at establishing an interface between management and the students.
Meanwhile, the 2015/2016 orientation for freshmen and women took place at the University auditorium (Peniel Chapel) immediately after the inauguration of the Student Interactive Forum. The new intakes had the opportunity of meeting with the University Management body. They were also introduced to the mission, vision and core values of the institution, while special prayers were offered for them.
