The Sport Unit primary focus is to develop each student to carry a sound spirit and mind in a sound body.

This unit is saddled with the responsibility of organizing sporting events and competitions amongst the student body, the best of these athletes are selected to represent the university in various national and international competitions.

Team BIU is renowned for excellence in the following sporting events: Basketball (Male and Female),Volleyball (Male and Female),Tennis ,Football, Athletics (track and field events), Scrabble, Table tennis, Chess, Badminton , Swimming

Our major focus is in intramural and Competitive Sports. The university sports unit organizes sporting activities for both staff and students.

Benson Idahosa University is the leading private university in sports in Nigeria. Having won all the 5 editions of the Nigeria Private University Games (NPUGA) from 2005-2013, The University has also excelled in other competitions such as the Nigeria University games and the West Africa Universities games.

In 2011, Benson Idahosa University came second runner- up in the West Africa University games held in University of Illorin ,Kwara State Nigeria.

SCHOLARSHIP

Benson Idahosa University grants full/partial educational scholarships to outstanding and deserving national and international sports men and women.

Benson Idahosa University students are encouraged to participate in any of the following sporting activities in the male and female category: Athletics (track and field), Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Cricket, Handball, Table Tennis, Hockey, Tennis, Scrabble, Squash, Swimming, Football and Volleyball.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  1. To encourage mass participation in recreational/competitive sports, and physical activities.
  2. To support and develop high level of Sports performance.
  3. To provide an opportunity to learn the important values developed through team spirit and cooperation.
  4. To provide opportunity for all our students and staff to realize the joy and fun of participation in their favorite sport.
  5. To provide wholesome and healthy activities for recreation and relaxation from strenuous school work for students, faculty, and staff members.
