The Benson Idahosa University Directorate of Research and International Programmes (DRIP) invites interested staff and students to the Space Tourism Trip slated for the Space Foundation, Colorado Springs USA. The trip is scheduled as follows:

The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of the Senate, Prof. Sam Guobadia, FICA, FIPMD, on behalf of Management and Senate of Benson Idahosa University cordially invites the general public to the 12th inaugural lecture of the university.

Lecture topic: Because “War is much too serious to be left to the military”, Corpus linguistics is a thing and it is a very useful thing too.

Four academic programmes at Benson Idahosa University have received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Executive Secretary of the NUC, through the Director of Accreditation, Dr. Maryam Sali, made this known in a letter sent to the Vice Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Prof. Sam Guobadia on the 14th of April, 2022.

The letter reads: “The National Universities Commission (NUC) has the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in all Nigerian Universities.”

It continues: “Pursuant to this mandate and in consonance with the provisions of the current Government approved guidelines, initial accreditation of new programme is held after the programme has run for two academic sessions following approval for the establishment of the programme. Thereafter, the commission accredits the approved programmes as and when due.”

The letter further read: “Consequently, the NUC organized the accreditation of academic programmes at the Benson Idahosa University, Benin-City, in October/November 2021.

The four programmes that received full accreditation are Nursing Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering.

In his reaction, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sam Guobadia appreciated the efforts of the NUC at ensuring quality and high standard of courses in universities. Expressing his gratitude, he further assured that the university will maintain a high standard of all its programmes.

 

 

Benson Idahosa University Commercial Farms is a production, research and training oriented farm.  Using the most advanced, efficient and recent technologies, the farm runs agriculture as a business entity while still fulfilling the aspect of manpower development through agricultural training and researches.

The farm is currently in need of an experienced and result oriented Farm Manager to effectively and productively co-ordinate the farm activities in conjunction with other organs of the commercial Farm Management.

THE PERSON

The applicant for the post of Farm Manager must be able to show the evidence of:

  1. A knowledge of food production and an awareness of customer demand, food situation and sustainability.
  2. An organizational and time management skills.
  • An ability to work under pressure.
  1. A supervisory skill and management ability.
  2. A Numerical aptitudes
  3. A Willingness to be outside  in all weather and patient to undertake all sorts of practical, sometimes repetitive jobs
  • Self-motivation and ability to motivate others
  • Large scale business awareness.
  1. Marketing and negotiation skills.
  2. I C.T. skills
  3. A good understanding of modern farming methods.
  • An understanding of the ways in which farming impacts the environment
  • Previous hands-on farming experience and technical knowledge.
  • A genuine commitment to farming.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A minimum of first degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering or HND in Agricultural related courses.
  2. Minimum of 7 years post N.Y.S.C experience in a farming related field
  3. A higher degree M.Sc. or specialized course in agriculture may be an added advantage

JOB DESCRIPTION

As a farm manager, you will need to;

  • Plan finances and production to maintain farm progress against budget parameters
  • Make sure products are ready for deadlines, such as auctions and markets
  • Market the farm products
  • Keep financial and other farm records up to date.
  • Undertake practical activities, such as driving tractors, operating machinery, and feeding livestock or spraying fields.
  • Buy supplies, such as fertilizer and seeds, animal feeds, drugs etc.
  • Arrange the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, machinery and equipment plan activities for trainee staff, mentoring and monitoring them.
  • Understand the implication of weather and make contingency plans.
  • Ensure that farm activities comply with government regulations
  • Monitor animal health and welfare, including liaising with Veterinary Doctors.
  • Maintain knowledge of pest and diseases and an understanding of how they spread and how to treat them.
  • Apply health and safety standards across the farm estate.
  • Protect the environment and maintaining biodiversity.
  • Keep financial record up to date.
