The International Leadership Idea Exchange programme (ILIX), ‘Thinker’s Nest, hosted by the President, Bishop F.E.B Idahosa has held a two-day political platform for the candidates of the All Progressive Congress  Party (APC), Mr. Godwin Obaseki, and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu; of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).


Feeding questions from the host in a highly interactive session on the theme of the event, ‘Why You’, the candidate of the All Progressive Congress Party, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, said; ‘he is in the race for the purpose of continuity’. According to him, the Edo project is a viable one, as such; he wants to pay to serve his people, rather than being paid to serve.  Speaking further he said; as a member of the Economic team of the outgoing administration, there is no better time to serve than now, adding that; there is need to continue in the trajectory of good governance.

Responding to the questions on: job creation, Agriculture, Industrialization and taxation, the APC candidate promised massive job creation through agricultural development. He added that his government will make Edo State an investment destination by creating an enabling environment for public private partnership (PPP). He however noted that taxes under his administration will be statutory, and promised to end the hardship on roads in Benin City, particularly around the Government Reservation Area (G.R.A).

The APC candidate also took time to respond to questions from the University’s management, and the students.


On his part, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in his interaction with the host, President F.E.B Idahosa on the ‘Why You’ question said; ‘his desire to contest in the governorship race was borne out of his concern for his people, and the passion to end the hardship imposed on the people of Edo State by the opposition party. He noted that based on his past experience in government coupled with the right leadership, Edo State will once again take its pride of place in Agriculture, Entertainment, Education and Industrialization. He however promised to deepen democracy through industrialization, Agriculture, and job creation.

Speaking further, the PDP candidate promised to diversify the State economy, promote public private partnership as well as create employment opportunities for the youths. He noted that Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) will grow through strategic investment, rather than multiple or increased taxation.

Pastor Ize-Iyamu also promised to reopen technical schools in the state by encouraging vocational training for its youths. He further stated that if voted into office, his administration has plans to invest in a film village, railway station, expand the Benin Airport in order to make it of international standard, and embark on massive road construction in order to drive the state economy.

The International Leadership Idea Exchange (ILIX), ‘Thinkers’ Nest, is a platform created by the President, Bishop F.E.B Idahosa, to bring together thought leaders, industry experts, practitioners, researchers, and young innovators to dialogue and proffer solutions to global issues.  Present at the first edition of ‘Thinkers’ Next were; Prof. Pat Utomi, Leke Alder, Uriel Palti, Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria amongst other.


The event which was powered by Benson Idahosa University, was well attended by the University community, and the general public.
