MANAGEMENT VISITS BEDC, ENGAGE CEO ON LOAD SHEDDING ARRANGEMENT

July 15, 2016

The Management, led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, was at the corporate head office of the Benin Electrical Distribution Company (BEDC), with regard to electricity matters at the Institution.

Commending the management of BEDC for the effort made at the distribution of power across the state, Prof. Sam Guobadia prayed the Managing Director of BEDC to use her good office to place the University properly in the load shedding arrangement, from C3 to A3, adding that as an institution involved in the business of raising young minds, leaders and change agents, the C3 placement is too high for the Institution. He also requested that the meter which the University had already applied for, should be delivered to the University.

Responding to the request made by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Managing Director of BEDC, Mrs. Funke Osibodu, said that the rule of the thumb for any developed industrial nation is that at least 1,000 megawatts of electricity should serve 1 million population. According to her, BEDC has a responsibility to make power available for consumers in the BEDC Zone, adding that the nation is in dire need of significant generation of electricity for its population.

Mrs. Funke Osibodu however assured the Management that the company will pay a visit to the University to see what could be done in terms of constructing dedicated special lines for the University, while speaking on the need for institutions to sensitize their students against unrest. In addition, the BEDC boss said that she has directed her office to ensure that the meter which was requested for by the University to be used at the Okah site is delivered as soon as possible.
