The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani has commended Benson Idahosa University for including practical Skills and Educational field trips within and outside the border into the curriculum of the Department of International Studies and Diplomacy, Benson Idahosa University.
The Nigerian Senator made this known while delivering a lecture to the Benson Idahosa University Young Diplomats Club at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja yesterday.
“You are doing better than some of the big universities, when they come here; I ask them questions and discover that many of their students of International Studies and diplomacy have not gone out of the country.” He said
Senator Sani, who also serves as the Senate Committee Chairman on Local & Foreign Debts, praised the Department of International Studies, for having visited three countries and numerous embassies this year.
He further advised other Universities in the country to follow the strides of Benson Idahosa University as such visits would help develop the students and broaden their national, intellectual, physical and spiritual education like they could never have imagined.
The Chairman, House of Representatives committee on foreign affairs, Hon. Nnena Ukeje who also held an interactive session with students spoke extensively on the changing nature of diplomatic relations and advised that practical experience and skill acquisition be part of University Education on International Studies and Diplomacy.
On the other hand, Honorable Akpatason Ohio Peter, representing Auchi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives gave the sum of Fifty thousand naira to the Members of BIU Young Diplomats Club and encouraged them to keep the flag flying.
Members of Benson Idahosa University Young Diplomats Club currently explored Abuja. The club members visited some embassies. They witnessed the proceedings at the Senate and Federal House of representatives yesterday. The presence of the students at the session of the House of Representatives was formally announced by the speaker. Hon Yakubu Dogara.
The Benson Idahosa University Young Diplomats Club was established in the 2016/2017 academic session to serve as a platform for career and academic training and exposure for students of International Studies and Diplomacy of the University. The goal is to enhance the image of the Department and the University respectively.
