Degree Programmes and Requirements

Each department within the Faculty has its own specific requirements with respect to admission into various programmes but these must conform to the University’s matriculation requirements. The requirements for each department are specified in various programmes.

DEGREE PROGRAMMES AND REQUIREMENTS

1. The Faculty of Arts and Education offers single Honours Degrees. The degree requirements include compulsory general university courses, and all students in the university are required to pass examinations in registered courses before they can graduate.
2. Single Honours Degrees: Students admitted by Entrance Examination shall, in their first year, in addition to compulsory general university courses, take required courses from their departments. The most appropriate subject areas will be defined by the department into which a student has been admitted.

Direct entry students will normally take all compulsory general university courses spread out through their years of study as specified by their departments. Single Honours students take most of their courses from their department, in addition to some electives from other faculties in order to foster interdisciplinary perspectives. Combined Honours students in the Department of Education are required, in addition to all compulsory general university courses, to take Education courses and core courses in their Teaching Subjects.

The Faculty also has a Department of Education which in due course will blossom into a full fledged faculty of its own. It currently offers Combined Honours degrees in the following areas:
