The Benson Idahosa University Research Directorate has been established in line with “section 4(1) paragraph b item (iii) and section 15 of the National Universities Commissions Act” and, arising from the NUC’s recommendation for the establishment of Research Management Directorates to reposition the conduct of research in Nigerian universities. The Benson Idahosa University Research Directorate, hereafter BIURD, is responsible for developing strategies that help maintain a healthy and productive research environment across the University. The tripartite purpose of the Directorate is:
>> to oversee and guide research activities in the University, promote cross-disciplinary research and scholarly output;
>> to enable the establishment of collaborations and linkages locally and internationally; and
>> to establish and manage alumni as well as endowment programmes to strengthen the financial capacity of the University.
The Directorate will support the research activities of the staff of the University by: seeking and disseminating research opportunities, enhancing research capacities; initiating inter university collaborations; identifying and enabling university-industry linkages; encouraging a conducive research atmosphere; creating awareness of channels for the visibility of the research of staff; helping to strengthen internal and external grant applications initiated by staff; creating awareness of good practice in research; providing liaison between research staff and external research and funding organizations as well as providing access to the repository of research publications. Aim
The Directorate of Research and International Programmes will coordinate all research activities in the University to ensure a healthy research culture in line with global practices.
