Prof. Sam Guobadia
Vice Chancellor

Dr. Sam Guobadia, Professor of Economics is a top research scholar, teacher, editor and facilitator of skills training Programmes. Professor Guobadia boasts of innovative ideas in economic development, corporate governance and organizational management. He received his undergraduate and postgraduate training in Nigeria and the United States of America.

As Head of the Benson Idahosa University Consultancy Services, Professor Guobadia collaborated with several organizations and institutions to deliver cutting edge and innovative programmes. These organizations include the World Bank, British Council, Bank of Industry, the Pan African University, and EnviroFly (UK). He directed the implementation of many other programs, including packages in project management, risk management, quality management, agricultural development, enterprise skills development, creative arts skills, etc. He served as the South-South Zonal Coordinator of the widely acclaimed Grooming Enterprise Leaders programme which was sponsored by the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria. He has played instrumental role in the new Federal Government’s Youth-with-Innovation programme; coordinating Edo and Delta States – receiving commendations from the National Coordinators of these programmes.

He has organized the training of over 1000 young Nigeria entrepreneurs since 2011, imparting requisite skills. He served as the President of the West African and African-American Chamber of Commerce in New York, U.S.A. While in the United States, he served as the Chairman of the Board of Descendants Inc, a group of professionals investing in appropriate securities in selected companies and sectors of the US economy. For his leadership role in many socio-economic issues while resident in New York, he received the prestigious United States Congressional Record Special Recognition Award (U.S. House of Representatives, Congressional Record, US Congress; Proceedings and Debates of the 106th Congress). Professor Guobadia is actively engaged in capacity building for the enhancement and development of various sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Academic Qualifications and Membership of Professional Associations

Professor Guobadia’s academic qualifications include baccalaureate, Master’s and Doctorate Degrees in Economics with emphasis on economic forecasting, economic development and financial economics. His academic and professional affiliations have included the American Economic Association, Nigerian Economic Society and the Nigerian Statistical Association. He is the Managing Editor of the West African Social and Management Sciences Review.
