FACULTY OF SOCIAL AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES

May 1, 2016

The Faculty of Social and Management Sciences (SMS) throw its weight behind, “Entrepreneurship Education and Job Creation in Nigeria”.

In his presentation, the guest lecturer, Prof. P.O. Eriki, former Director. Entrepreneurship Development, University of Benin, said that the concept of entrepreneurship development is about improving or adding value to an already existing system. According to him, creativity is key to entrepreneurship development.  Prof Eriki, urged the students to learn to think exponentially and not lineally. He noted that exponential thinking is driven by skills and intellect.

Identifying the hands, packaging and marketing as requirements for an entrepreneur, Prof. Eriki, told his audience that for every opportunity, there is an added value. He however spoke on the need for youths to build themselves up by acquiring entrepreneurial skills. He also advised them to pay their tithes regularly, give to the Church, care for their parents and the poor as well as take responsibility for their lives, adding that every breakthrough in history came as a result of a crazy idea by someone. In conclusion, the guest lecturer called on the students to see themselves as creators, reminding them again that education demands both exponential thinking and not lineal thinking.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie, represented by the Dean of Post Graduate School, Prof. Bamidele Sanni, while congratulating the Faculty, stated that the theme for the Faculty week is in line with the Vision establishing the Institution, ‘to raise leaders, entrepreneurs and academics who will be effective Disciples of Christ, excelling in their various fields’. He therefore encouraged the students to work hard towards establishing themselves to becoming great entrepreneurs in their various fields of endeavor.
