The Faculty of Law has again added another feather to its cap by clinching 1st prize at the 2015 edition of the just concluded MOOT Court competition held at the University of Uyo.
Welcoming the victorious ambassadors made up of: Udoema Ubong Anietie, (500L Law student), Okara Chibusonma Ogechi, (500L Law student) and Abu Michael Oghenetega, (400L Law student), and the coach, Dr. Mrs. T.U. Akpoghome in company of the Ag. Dean of the Faculty, Dr. J.E Idugboe, in his office, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie lauded the achievements of the Faculty of Law for making Benson Idahosa University proud at the competition.
He noted that their emergence as winners of the 1st prize in Brief Memorial at the competition is an added credence to the quality of students the Faculty is producing which is also in tandem with the vision of Benson Idahosa University, “to raise leaders who will be effective Disciples of Christ by excelling in their various fields”.
Expressing her gratitude to the University Management on behalf of the team for the sponsorship, the Coach and Lecturer in the Faculty, Dr. Mrs. T.U. Akpoghome noted that though the event was highly intense, she was quite impressed by the performance of the students as they won the hearts of many including that of the Vice Chancellor of the host University whom she quoted as saying, “I now have great respect for private universities”. She added that the students also won the prize for the best dressed MOOTER at the competition.
MOOT Court is an advocacy competition between students from various institutions in the country. It is an avenue for students to be trained on how to prepare briefs in court as well as make submissions.
Special prayers were said for the team by the Vice Chancellor and the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sam Guobadia.
