The State of Israel is well renowned for its vibrant agriculture. It is in fact a world leader in agricultural technologies despite its small and not so favourable geographical location. The country, which produces 95% of its own food requirement, has been battling with its neighbours  in the Middle East for about sixty six years since independence. The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Amb. Uriel Palti, was hosted by Benson Idahosa University recently, where he delivered a public lecture on ‘The Middle East Peace Process and Implications for Nigeria’.  For a world class university like BIU which aspires to be a model for academics, professionals and entrepreneurs, the visit of the ambassador was historic and highly significant. A private University, Benson Idahosa University (BIU), Benin City, Edo State at the weekend lauded the National Universities Commission (NUC) for its partnership with agencies to boost research which it said constitutes 30 percent of university education.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ernest B. Izevbigie stated this during the school’s 9th convocation ceremony where he added that there was partnership between the school, edo state government and israel in the area of agriculture.

“there are benefits for a university to rank high because prospective student and funding agencies that fund research projects tend to have affinities for universities with high ranking”.

The recent move by the NUC to forge partnership/collaboration with other institutions or organisations to conduct a workshop titled “Paradigm Shift: Let your Knowledge and Research create wealth for you”  held on november 26-27, 2013 in abuja further underscores the importance of universities
