In readiness for the second semester final examinations scheduled to start on Monday, June 1st, 2020, students should be guided and strive to meet the following requirements:

1. A laptop or desktop computer with webcam. CBT exams are not mobile device enabled

2. Students are also required to download the exam App from their page on the University eduportal

3.  Email verification would be deployed to confirm login by both staff and students

4. Only BIU emails are enabled for such verification. Students are therefore required to activate their BIU domain emails before exams begin.

5. Login challenges should immediately be referred to [email protected]   

The University is aware of challenges that may arise from implementing the above. Involve your parents/guardians in resolving some of the challenges to enable you pay more attention to your studies as you prepare for your examinations.

No one is required to go purchase a laptop during the nationwide lockdown period. You may rely on assistance from friends, family members (aunties/uncles/cousins), neighbors, church members or even your local church offices, to assist you or use their facilities for the exams, while observing social distancing, hand washing, sanitizer use, etc. For the students in Benin City or its environs, contact the Vice Chancellor’s office (telephone – 0815 851 0010) for special arrangements to be made for use of the University’s computer labs. All social distancing, use of masks and hand washing rules will be applied.

Data subscription is very important too. There are daily data bonuses being offered by network providers during this pandemic period. Please explore these options.

Other technical guidelines will be posted before the commencement of your examinations.

1. What are the plans of the school to conclude this academic session?

A: The University management team has proposed the use of an on-line evaluation process. This process will involve the use of the already existing CBT interface in the University

2. Will there be on-line exams?
A: Yes, it will be conducted using the University’s CBT platform managed by the ICT unit

3.Will the normal grading system still apply with this on-line exams?

A: Yes, although there might be slight modifications. Details will be communicated after the Senate meeting scheduled to hold (via Zoom) on April 23rd, 2020.

4  Will the on-line exams be multiple choice questions or essay?

A: This will be decided by the Deans, HODs & course lecturers.

5. When are the on-line exams expected to start?

A: This will be communicated via our website and Social Media platforms after the Senate meeting scheduled for next week.

6. Are we expected to complete payment of fees before the examinations?

A: Yes

7. Will there be revision test or classes before the exams?

A: Yes

8. When is the expected date of resumption?

A: Date of resumption for students will depend on the lifting of the bans on movement due to the COVID-19 pandemic

The Founder and General Overseer of Believers’ Love World (Christ Embassy), Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has commissioned the Dr. Chris Oyakhilome Faculty of Engineering building he donated to the university.

Speaking at the official dedication and commissioning of the legacy campus and the faculty of engineering, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome said the donation was not only towards contributing to the actualisation of the dream of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa, but also an opportunity for him to appreciate the BIU founder’s immense contribution to his life.

He said: “I didn’t think I was doing something other than expressing my appreciation. I took the opportunity afforded me to say thank you. I am one grateful person, grateful for what Bishop Idahosa was doing.”

“We are the legacy of his word; we are the legacy of his message. It is my joy to be a part of this. It is my hope that everyone will think about what he could really contribute to it.  I am his legacy, you are his legacy, this is our campus, it is the campus of the legacy of Archbishop Benson Idahosa. We are his fruits. I count myself highly honoured to have been given the opportunity to be here. This is one University we all need and we have to have it. It is the vision of God. Think of what you can do. Everything you can do in this University, do it, dream of it,” he said.

He commended the late archbishop’s family for keeping up with his legacy, disclosing that the person he has become today was sharpened by the late archbishop.

Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Archbishop Margaret Benson-Idahosa, thanked Pastor Chris for his donation. She described the faculty of engineering building as state of the art, adding that the donor would be forever remembered for the gesture.

Archbishop Margaret Benson Idahosa eulogized the donor for sowing in the vineyard of God and contributing to the educational development of the nation.

According to her, she never doubted the actualisation of the University even when some people expressed fear that it would be a tall dream after the demise of the founder.

“Nobody ever thought that BIU will be a reality. I thank God for people like Chris Oyakhilome and others who have made this dream a reality”.

She described Pastor Chris as her son, and prayed that the financial contribution which he has made to the institution should grow up like a seed and should be reaped by him and up to his sixth generations adding that the gesture of the donation will impact positively on many people in no small measure.

The President of the University, Feb Idahosa, posited that BIU remained a legacy that was built by all, including the students and the likes of Chris Oyakhilome.

In his words: “It is not a one-man show; it is only a vision that was built by a community. We are all part of the success story of the legacy” he said.

The Faculty building consists of a 2-winged, 3 floor building with a pent house which forms the Dean’s complex/Faculty office as the fourth floor. It also houses 54 offices, six HOD’s offices and twenty four (24) hundred seater capacity lecture rooms. The building covers a total land area of 2,550M2

The commissioning of the Ultra-Modern Engineering building was graced by clergymen, government functionaries, business moguls, representatives of various educational institutions across the country and representatives of the traditional Institutions from both the palace of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II and the Olu of Warri Kingdom.

The Governing Council of the Benson Idahosa University (BIU) has rectified the appointment of a Professor of Animal Nutrition, Johnson O. Oyedeji, as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution.

The University’s Acting Head, Communications and Brand Strategy Unit (CBSU), Mr. Temi Esonamunjor, who made this known in a press statement, said Prof. Oyedeji’s appointment was made at the council’s 96th Regular Meeting.

Until his recent appointment, Prof. Oyedeji was a former Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and also Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Benson Idahosa University. He has also held several administrative positions in the University.

He is a registered animal scientist and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), as well as a member of Nigeria Society for animal production and also a member of World Poultry Science.s

 

The Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Archbishop Margaret E. Benson-Idahosa JP, OON, has inaugurated the 3rd Governing Council of the university which is to be led by Prof. Patrick Okedinachi Utomi.

Speaking at the inauguration, Archbishop Margaret Benson-Idahosa, charged the new council members to work with members of the university’s management team to achieve the mandate and goals of the founder, the late Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa.

She said: “As a developing university, there will be the need of efficient and intentional mobilization of the much needed resources to grow infrastructures and programmes. More than any other group of officers, you have the unique responsibility like the founding father of this great university, Archbishop Benson Idahosa to lead this effort.”

Archbishop Margaret Idahosa who expressed her joy urged the new council members to work together to take the university to the next level.

“I do not think there is a better team to get the job done for us at this time. We trust you, we have confidence in you and we believe that your coming in at this time is divinely arranged by God that you will be able to work together and take this university to the next level,” she added.

Responding, the new Pro- Chancellor, Pat Utomi pledged to reach out and work with all stakeholders of the institution to achieve the vision of its founder. He thanked the Chancellor for the confidence she has placed on him, promising that the challenge of the new council will be to truly make the university world class.

The Vice Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Professor Sam Guobadia, appreciated Margaret Benson-Idahosa for her support for the set goals and efforts at realising the founder’s vision.

The Pro – Chancellor and Chairman of the 3rd Governing Council of the University, Pat Utomi is a Nigerian professor of Social and Political Economy Environment of Business. He is the founder of Centre for Value in Leadership and has served in senior positions in government including Special Assistant to Former President, Shehu Shagari.

He is  widely traveled through all the continents of the world and has received several awards of excellence, certificates of honour and Plaques in recognition of his outstanding contributions to knowledge.

Within a few months of his return to Nigeria from Bloomington, Indiana, United States, Pat got enlisted by then former Vice President, Alex Ekwueme to provide consultancy services on some public policy papers. Dr. Utomi has also previously occupied the position of Chief Operating Officer for Volkswagen of Nigeria Limited (1983 – 1993) and Director-Applied Economics Centre at Lagos Business School.

The new Benson Idahosa University Governing Council Chairman is active on the International speaking circuit, especially on the subjects of Growth economics, comparative development, Leadership, the Curse of Oil and China’s Economic surge and growing influence in Africa. He has collaborated fairly frequently with the center for strategic and international studies (CSIS) in Washington, and Chatham House, in the UK. He has also written commissioned papers for the UKs DFID including the latest collaboration with Colleagues from Oxford on the Political Economy of growth in Nigeria.

Utomi was a presidential candidate in 2007 and 2011 on the platform of African Democratic Congress.

 

 

The Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Most Revd. (Dr.) Margaret Benson Idahosa, on Tuesday January 14, 2020 commissioned the University’s Okha Campus named “Legacy Campus.”

Commissioning the project, she expressed joy and satisfaction at the quality of work done and the readiness of the campus for use. She expressed her gratitude to God almighty and members of staff for keeping the vision of the founder, Archbishop Benson Andrew Idahosa, alive.

Archbishop Margaret Idahosa commended the President of Benson Idahosa University, Bishop F.E.B. Idahosa and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sam Guobadia for  the numerous developmental projects in the University which have positioned the institution to be among the best in the country, and beyond, praying God to continue to grant them and the University Management team the strength and wisdom to sustain the tempo of achievements.

She said: “I am glad to be here today, i want to thank all the members of staff, all of you that are here, knitted together with the President, Vice Chancellor, and myself to see that the vision of Archbishop Benson Idahosa of blessed memory is not lost. I want to thank the students, and my love also goes to your parents that have placed huge confidence in us.”

She expressed optimism that the ultra-modern campus would go a long way in enhancing academic activities and the global competitiveness of the university, urging staff members not to relent in their efforts to make the university one of the best in the world.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of Benson Idahosa University, Prof. Sam Guobadia,  thanked the Chancellor for her  support in all areas and for finding time to commission the beautiful campus. He further extolled the leadership qualities, wealth of knowledge, and hard work of the Chancellor in Ministry, the university and the nation at large.

Prof. Guobadia reiterated his determination to re-position the University by providing adequate infrastructure and facilities that would support teaching and research activities in the University.
